Selfie sticks have swept through japan like a typhoon, with the eye of the storm firmly resting on Kyoto. Another of Japan’s historic capitals, the city has also found fame for occupying the most pages in the ubiquitous Lonely Planet Japan and for hosting the country’s finest collection of gift shops. Now on any given day the cobbled streets play host to herds of selfie-obsessed teens, dressed in traditional Japanese kimonos and perfecting their pose, pout and peace sign.
